The village of Kharia Khangar is 90 kilometers northeast of Jodhpur. To reach it one has to drive rough roads into the interior of Jodhpur district. This is also the place where Birla White cement factory is located. We had a camp in the factory premises on 18-12-24.

A large number of patients had started queuing up in the wee hours of the cold December morning. Our team which included SEEI volunteer eye surgeon Dr Lauren Shatz, began examining cases at 9:30 AM. By the time we finished the Outpatients at 5 PM, we had screened and treated 655 patients. We selected 93 patients for cataract surgery, and they were bussed back to Jodhpur. Over a two-day period, we operated 86 patients free of charge. Seven patients had uncontrolled blood pressure or discharge in the eye, so they were given treatment and called after 10 days for surgery
