On February 14, 2025, we had the immense pleasure of organizing a free eye camp in the village of Basni HariSingh, close to Bhopalgarh. It was generously sponsored by the All India Lime Manufacturers Association. This small village, rich in limestone deposits, is home to numerous lime kilns. Our journey to Basni HS was quite the adventure as we lost our way despite having GPS to guide us. A friendly motorcyclist came to our rescue, guiding us through dirt roads until we encountered a temporary halt due to rock blasting in a nearby quarry. Once the blasting concluded, we were waved through and finally reached our destination, albeit an hour late.

The sight that greeted us was one of barren fields, blanketed in lime dust. This ever-present dust settles on every surface, including generators and tractors left out in the open. Despite our delayed arrival, we quickly set to work and efficiently screened a significant number of patients. We treated 267 patients on-site and brought 15 patients back to the base hospital for surgery. All surgeries were performed free of charge, with each patient receiving a foldable intra-ocular lens at no cost. Additionally, we distributed 54 eyeglasses during the camp.
