The village of Papasani, nestled 86 kilometers north of Jodhpur in Nagaur district, boasts a close-knit population of 1,799. This quaint village hosted its first-ever free eye camp on March 21, 2025, marking a milestone in its history. The excitement among the villagers was palpable—they welcomed us with unparalleled warmth, rolling out the proverbial red carpet to celebrate the occasion. Their traditional hospitality included an arti (prayer ceremony) for our visiting team, along with tilaks and a mouthful of sweet, golden gur (jaggery), symbolizing their heartfelt gratitude.
With the joyous reception behind us, we swiftly transformed a spacious hall within a local farmhouse into a bustling examination site. Over the course of the camp, we meticulously assessed and treated 254 patients for a variety of eye conditions, dispensing 104 pairs of eyeglasses to those with impaired vision. Additionally, 23 individuals suffering from cataract-induced visual loss were transported via our hospital bus to Jodhpur. There, they received free surgeries that replaced their damaged lenses with clear artificial ones, restoring their sight and enhancing their quality of life.
The accompanying photographs vividly capture the essence of this extraordinary initiative: the resolute dedication of our team, the heartfelt gratitude etched on the faces of those we served, and the transformative impact of accessible eye care. These moments highlight the significance of our efforts in supporting the National Programme for the Prevention of Blindness, contributing in our own humble way to reducing the prevalence of blindness and alleviating its societal burden.
