Bastawa Here We Come !

Sixty-two kilometers west of Jodhpur lies the village of Bastawa, a small yet remarkable community with a population of about 2,500. Bastawa holds a unique and proud distinction – many of its residents have selflessly served in the Indian Army, embodying a spirit of patriotism and resilience that defines this desert hamlet.

In the heart of this proud village, on the 18th of March 2025, we had the privilege of organizing a free eye camp, a beacon of hope for the community. This initiative was generously sponsored by the Indian Red Cross Society, Jodhpur Branch, and brought much-needed eye care services to the doorstep of those who needed them most.

During the camp, we provided on-site examinations and compassionate care to 132 patients. A total of 37 individuals were prescribed eyeglasses, offering them clarity and a new perspective on life. In addition, 20 patients were identified as needing cataract surgery. These individuals were transported to our base hospital in Jodhpur, where they underwent free cataract surgery with artificial lens implantation, restoring their vision and improving their quality of life.

The accompanying photographs vividly capture the essence of this extraordinary initiative—a testament to the unwavering power of empathy, dedication, and the commitment to transforming lives in the arid expanse of the Thar Desert. Through efforts like these, we continue to strive toward our mission of eliminating avoidable blindness and illuminating the path to a brighter future.
