At our monthly outreach site – the Govt. Hospital in Chopsni – we examined 24 patients and provided on-site medical treatment. Six were selected for free cataract surgery. However, two patients were found to have uncontrolled diabetes during pre-op investigations, leaving four eligible for surgery. All four of the eligible cataract patients were operated in the evening and received intraocular lens implants at no cost.
Diabetes is a growing challenge in India, which is now dubbed the Diabetes Capital of the World with over 80 million affected. For low-income patients, managing diabetes is a daily struggle, often sidelining essential care like eye surgery. The two unoperated cases highlight the urgent need for integrated diabetes and eye care in underserved communities.

With agriculture waning, a new wave of small-scale manufacturing is emerging, fueled by the undiminished spirit of its people.
On 7 July 2025, our nonprofit team joined hands with local leader Mr. Daga, who spearheaded publicity and arranged transport. We treated 401 patients and selected 26 individuals for free cataract surgery. These patients were transported to our base hospital in Jodhpur and successfully operated – restoring sight and dignity. We had the privilege to operate on martyr Setha Ram’s uncle who is pictured in image 3.
This initiative not only honored a martyr’s memory but also advanced our mission to reduce avoidable blindness in the underserved communities of the Thar Desert.
